Africa as an important route for drug trafficking to Europe, Asia and Oceania

Abstract

This article is based primarily on information obtained and compiled from open sources, as well as on a comparative analysis of data over a specific period of time. It uses data from the International Center for Research and Analysis against Maritime Drug Trafficking (CMCON) as its main reference, seeking to demonstrate, through evidence-based arguments, the importance of the African continent as a transit route and hub for the illicit trafficking of narcotics. This environment is effectively exploited by transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) to carry out their criminal activities, primarily using various methods such as Go-Fast boats, large vessels, fishing vessels, and recreational boats. Subsequently, conclusions can be drawn based on the current dynamics of drug trafficking on the African continent, where it can be observed that these TCOs traffic different types of narcotics, primarily cocaine hydrochloride (CHC) and hashish.
