Abstract

Port competitiveness has become a strategic factor for the development of cruise tourism and international logistics integration. This article aims to characterize and compare the determining factors of competitiveness in the cruise tourism supply chain at the Cartagena Regional Port Society Terminal (SPRC), the Port of Cozumel (Mexico), and the Port of Shanghai (China). Methodologically, an exploratory-descriptive case study was developed, based on documentary analysis and international benchmarking, considering categories such as port infrastructure, operational efficiency, logistics services, connectivity, environmental sustainability, and passenger experience. The results reveal significant asymmetries among the ports analyzed, with Shanghai positioned as a global benchmark due to its high level of automation and logistics integration, Cozumel standing out for its tourism leadership and capacity to handle large volumes of passengers, and the SPRC presenting strategic strengths with clear opportunities for improvement in tourism diversification, sustainability, and technological innovation. It is concluded that the adoption of international best practices can strengthen the competitiveness of the Port of Cartagena within the Caribbean port system.
