River Operations as a Differential Capability of The Colombian Marines

Abstract

The Colombian Marine Corps in its advance towards the world trends in security and defense of the XXI century, has been projected to strengthen differential capabilities such as coastal, river, amphibious and special defense operations, highlighting river operations as a differential capability that has allowed positioning the Colombian Marine Corps in international scenarios as an exporter of river doctrine, through training and training provided to allied countries.
In this reflection article, an analysis of riverine operations as a differential capability of the Colombian Marines was carried out through the application of a reflective methodology that glimpsed the origin, evolution and projection of such capability. First, a background analysis was conducted, highlighting its beginnings and evolution through the years. Secondly, an analysis was made of the nature and generalities from its creation to the present day, understanding its context and purpose. Thirdly, the projection of such operations to 2042 was analyzed, which allowed perceiving its importance in the protection of the maritime and fluvial interests of the Nation.
